I KNOW that the church is TRUE!
Hola Familia y Amigos,
Well this past week went pretty well. There are always ups and downs but as long as we keep our eyes on the positive everything goes well.
So the other day we received a message from our investigator, Marilene saying that she talked to her pastor and is going to return to her church. That was a bit of a shocker but I didn't take it for an answer and we are going to meet with her this week to see what happened and see if we can help her understand more about why her baptism in her church wasn't valid.
The hardest part about the work here is that we explain to our investigators things but they either aren't really listening or they just have a hard time understanding. It has taken us a lot of patience here with our investigators but that's ok. We just need to explain more and be more direct and clear.
We started working with a sister named Maggy this past week and she is absolutely awesome! She actually lived in the states for a while and so she knows English too.. but while she was in the states she suffered a car accident on the freeway and was in a coma for 6 MONTHS! She said that one day she just woke up and even walked that same day. She has always been searching for the truth and she feels that this might be it. She told us that she would come to church and so we were pretty happy about that but still a little doubtful because every time someone says they'll come, they don't show up... So Sunday came and we were waiting, and waiting.. then about one minute before the meeting started she showed up! Woohoo! She absolutely loved church and she even shared quite a bit in Sunday School and Relief Society haha. We are really praying that she continues to progress and come to church so that we can get her baptised. Pray for her!
We helped Roxana finish the fondant on the cake that she has to do and I think this week we are going to help her a little bit with the decorating. So that should be fun :) We had a couple good lessons with her this week but she still has a fear of change. Her and Gustavo, her husband invited us over for lunch yesterday so Gustavo ended up picking us up from church which was super nice because it was darn hot! Haha After lunch we had a lesson with Roxana and helped her understand more about Joseph Smith and just questions she had. We taught her a little about temples and used proof from the bible that says that we need to do baptisms for the dead. I think that helped her a bit to be a little more convinced. She says though that she believes in the things that we have taught her but I think she just has a fear that if she changes, she is abandoning her daughters who don't want to have anything to do with the church. I finally just shared my thoughts with her about how she needs to be the example for her daughters to find the desire to search the truth. She was still a bit nonreceptive. Near the end, I mentioned to her how she has really good beliefs and I brought up how she always says that she believes.. but then I told her how I KNOW. I KNOW that this church is true and I KNOW that there is no other true gospel on this earth other than the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I told her how we want her to be able to say that to. That she can say that she KNOWS the truth. She didn't have any arguments after that.. haha. I could see a bit of a change in her yesterday so we are going to keep on chuggin along and see what miracle the Lord can perform in her.
So I decided to write down a few things and moments I am thankful here in my mission:
- I'm thankful for Hermana Betty (pensionista) Who sees us from her 6 story apartment as we are walking to appointments and waves at us and blows us kisses.
- I'm thankful for all the little kids here who remind me of my cute nieces back home
- I'm thankful for Elias (grandson of Hermana Vladimira who we live with) who every day he sees me yells "Forseys!" and gives me a high five.
- I'm thankful for the funny moments we have like when my skirt flies almost all the way up in the wind... Haha and when we are looking at the starts and I trip on a pot hole and fall to the ground. (luckily each of those only happened once) ;)
- I'm thankful for all the moments that make me more and more thankful that I am a part of this amazing gospel.
- I'm thakful for all the amazing family I have down here and at home who love and support me in everything I do. :)
Ok so here are a couple facts for this week:
- Weed wackers work great for lawn mowers. I'm sure it saves money too.
- If you are going to run a red light, just honk your horn a few times and you'll be fine.
So like I was talking about with Hermana Roxana, I have noticed that not one person here has told us that they KNOW that their church is true. The people here have a ton of faith. But what is so special about this gospel is that every single member that has a testimony of this gospel can say that they KNOW that this church is true. What power that brings when we can testify of the knowledge we have an not just of the beliefs we have. Don't every be afraid to tell someone the things you KNOW about his gospel and about Christ and Heavenly Father's love for us. If you don't know yet, find out. Find out what the truth is so that you can have that solid foundation that the scriptures teach us to have. I KNOW that this church is true. I KNOW IT, I KNOW IT, I KNOW IT.
I love you all and am so thankful for everyone and for all your love and support. Take care this week and don't forget to smile!!
Love,
Hermana Forsey
p.s. Thank you Michone, Aunt Kris and mom for the great pics this week!! Love you all! And HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY AUNT KRIS!!!!! (I'm not sure if I already said that.. ;) )
