Birthdays are the BEST!
Hola Familia y Amigos,
Another great big thank you to everyone for all the lovely birthday wishes!!! My birthday was great! The Rivera family who, we have had lunch with a few times now was so amazing to put on a little party for me. The mom, Claudia made delicious sopa de mani and a yummy cake too. Elder Van Horn in my zone who is also one of the secretaries we eat dinner with completed a year in the mission on the same day as well so we just made it a party! Haha the tradition here for your birthday is that you either get as many eggs as the year you are completing dumped on your head with flower on top of that or you have to take a bite of the cake with your mouth and someone tries to smash your face in it.. I lucked out a ton haha My smooth moves saved me from having to go shower again ;) It was awesome having people I love to spend my birthday with and have a little celebration.
Last tuesday we ran into some people while they were walking out of their house and turns out that the mom and the daughter are inactive members and the son, Jesus is not a member. AND Jesus and I have the same birthday! It was so perfect that we ran into them two days before his birthday and I know that Heavenly Father lead us there. Ruby, the mom was telling us that she was really worried because she doesn't have enough money to do anything special for Jesus. My companion told her not to worry and that there would be cake on his birthday. She was in tears and was so thankful. We ended up making a FANTASTIC double layer brownie cake for Jesus and topped it off with dulce de leche (carmel) Oh boy, I think that's one of my new favorites ;) After we celebrated my birthday, we went to our pension's house and finished the cake. They said they would be home at 6 so we went over to their house, (the Flores family) and they weren't home... We ended up waiting because we had this delicious cake that coudn't go to waist haha but really I wanted to make Jesus's birthday more special. I said a few prayers and they finally showed up at around 6:45! We ended having a great little visit with them and lit candles and sang to Jesus. It was a great way to share the rest of my birthday :)
Little Adriana came to church again this week but her sister Sarah didn't want to come for some reason :( Darn. Her dad Paulino is awesome and really likes when his kids go to our church. We gave him a Book of Mormon this past week and he was so excited to get it and start reading. He can read Quechua better so we gave him one on Quechua. He says he is reading it each day and continues to pray with his family each day. He also said he will try to come to church next week so we could use your prayers!! I know that if he comes to church it will be a lot easier to get his kids to come more.
We found a new investigator last week that only speaks a few words in Spanish. Yep, she speaks only Quechua! So I'm thinkin I need to learn Quechua haha. We are using a Book of Mormon in Quechua to teach her and I know that the Spirit is there and it's pretty necessary that we have the Spirit with us to help us teach her.
SOOOO... We recieved the news of changes last night and Hermana Huarachi is going to another area in Cochabamba and I am receiving a new companion who is from Peru and has been there for 6 months waiting for her visa to come to Bolivia. So looks like I will have to step it up with responsiblity haha because she doesn't know Cochababma at all and I will have to take the lead with our investigators and our area for the first little while. I know that the Lord has a plan for me and has lessons that I need to learn and he will help me along the way. I know it won't be very easy taking more control especially in Spanish but I know I can do it! Only a month and a half more and I finish my training haha that will be nice ;).
The other day, we went and ate hamburgers with a couple of the secretaries we eat dinner with and the sisters we eat lunch and dinner with. There is a guy in their ward that is from the U.S. but has lived here for i think 5 years! He is married and has two little kids. He started this little stand called Gringo Burger to pay for his school which he came here for because it is so cheap. I'll just say it was a little taste of home haha. There are a lot of hambergurs here but no one seems to know how to do it right except him so that was a nice little treat to get an americanized burger ;)
Still no packages yet but I'm prayin for it! I guess I'll just get to celebrate my birthday again when they come haha.
Mom, I'm glad you are able to talk to Claudia and keep in touch with her. She really is amazing and is so sweet to us. She tells me how you guys have been chatting back and forth and is really excited to be in contact with you. Oh and she really is someone you can relate with because she is one of the primary leaders too! haha
Also mom, will you tell Andrew's grandma thank you for the message and that I love her too!
I love you all so much and I'm thankful that you are all doing well!! Take care this week!!
